The Regents approved Warings appointment, effective Oct. 22, at their October meeting.
Waring, who earned a B.A. in journalism from the U-M in 1974, brings to the post a background in government service, as well as extensive experience in government relations, noted Cynthia Wilbanks, vice president for government relations. He has been actively involved with the University of Michigan Club in Washington, serving as president in 199193, and is treasurer of the Alumni Associations Board of Directors.
Waring will plan, develop and coordinate liaison activities between the U-M and the federal, legislative and executive branches; educational associations; professional societies; and public policy organizations. Waring also will direct the operational activities of the U-M government relations office in Washington.
