Three people from the pottery program at the Flint Institute
of Arts examine bowls sold for $12 each during the Empty Bowls fundraiser
at U-MFlint. It raised $7,800.
For more than a decade, area artists have raised thousands of dollars
for two agencies that serve the poor through the sale of ceramic
bowls. More than 1,000 bowls crafted by students from the Flint
Community Schools Fine Arts Department, the Flint Institute of Art
and other local artists filled tables in the University Pavilion.
The money is divided between the Shelter of Flint and the Food Bank
of Eastern Michigan.
Greg Fiedler of the Greater Flint Arts Council says more than
$55,000 has been given to each agency since the effort began, not
including this year's total. (Photo by Mel Serow, U-MFlint)
