Brianne Haven, a waste-reduction specialist in U-M's recycling department, swims in a sea of polystyrene foam that was collected in August during the installation of 767 new computers on campus. The packaging foam, which filled a 40-foot semi trailer, was taken to Dart Container for recycling into hard plastic containers. Also, 134 cubic yards of cardboard were recycled after the computer installation. Much more recyclable material was expected with the arrival of students on campus. U-M was recognized as the Outstanding School Program by the National Recycling Coalition earlier this year. (Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services).
