Service to keep families, friends in touch with campus life

Student response has been extremely positive for a new service that allows them to give parents and friends access to University information via e-mail.

Last fall, Student Financial Operations (SFO) began a project to replace the monthly student account billing statement with a Wolverine Access-based electronic bill. Students often involve others—usually parents—in the bill-paying process, so SFO needed a way for students to authorize others to have access to electronic bills.

In partnership with the Office of Financial Aid, the Housing Office, Office of New Student Programs and the Office of the Vice President for Communications, SFO has developed a new student self-service page in Wolverine Access. It is called "Email Communications for Family and Friends."

As of July 2, students can provide e-mail addresses of up to four family members and friends for dissemination of select University information, including one or more of the following:

• Student Billing Information—An e-mail containing a link to the student's electronic bill will be sent each month a statement is generated. SFO also may send information such as payment plan features, rate changes and other items of general interest;

• Financial Aid Information—This includes application procedures and deadlines, disbursement schedules, scholarships, and other general topics;

• Alerts & Bulletins—These are targeted announcements about the University's response to unexpected or emergency situations;

• Housing Information—Messages that will include the parent newsletter, general interest notices about upcoming events and other information related to University Housing.
