Regents Roundup

The following items were approved by the Board of Regents at its April 15 meeting.

Pneumatic tube system at medical center to be upgraded

The U-M Hospitals and Health Centers plan to upgrade the pneumatic tube system used to transport patient materials between various parts of the University Hospital, C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Cancer Center, A. Alfred Taubman Health Care Center and Maternal Child Health Center. The new system will increase both system security and efficiency, and also will be connected to the new C. S. Mott Children’s and Von Voightlander Women’s Hospitals Replacement Project currently under construction. The $3 million project will be funded from U-M Hospitals and Health Centers’ resources and is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2011.

Addition planned for Institute for Social Research

The Board of Regents gave the initial approval for a $23 million addition to the Institute for Social Research (ISR) to enhance the institute’s ability to support its growing research programs. The four-level addition will add approximately 44,700 gross square feet of space to ISR and renovate 7,200 gross square feet of the existing facility. The project will be funded by an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 grant from the National Institutes of Health, the Office of the Provost and ISR.
