This month in history (41 years ago)

When Apollo 15 launched on July 26, 1971, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, all three crew members were from U-M: David Scott, who attended in 1949-50, and Al Worden and James Irwin, who both earned materials science and engineering degrees in 1963 and 1957, respectively. It was the first expedition with a lunar rover vehicle and the fourth in which humans walked on the moon. The group left on the moon a charter of the U-M Alumni Club of the Moon. — Official website of Worden, Apollo 15 command module pilot
