Matthew Schroeder, a registered nurse at U-M Hospital, has won re-election as the union staff representative to the Police Department Oversight Committee. Schroeder will begin a new two-year term on July 1.
He was elected by members of the following unions: the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), the House Officers Association (HOA), the Michigan Nurses’ Association (MNA) and the University of Michigan Skilled Trades Union.
The six-member committee is comprised of two student members, two faculty members (one Senate faculty and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms. The Police Department Oversight Committee considers grievances against any police officer or the department.
Additional information about the committee and its procedures may be found at the Police Department Oversight Committee website, hr.umich.edu/umpd.
