This month in history (43 years ago)

When a student-faculty group organized a weekend Teach In to End the War event and invited activists including Rennie Davis and David Dellinger, U-M President Robben Fleming accepted the opportunity to share the platform with Davis at Hill Auditorium. Fleming said the Vietnam War was a “colossal mistake,” though an honest one, and urged that reaction should not produce further “erosion in values within our universities … dangerous to the climate of free inquiry.” — From “The University of Michigan, An Encyclopedic Survey,” courtesy Bentley Historical Library
