Two from U-M named Carnegie Scholars
Mark Tessler and Hussein Anwar Fancy have been named 2009 Carnegie Scholars by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, an honor that recognizes “compelling ideas and a commitment to enriching the quality of the public dialogue on Islam.”

Deadline approaching for fall '09 early textbook list
As the registration season for Fall 2009 approaches, the university reminds faculty it is important to choose their texts early, to help students locate less expensive used books. Early textbook-adoption deadlines are June 25 for local bookstores to order used texts and July 20 for student comparison-shopping.

Accreditation forum open to U-M community
As the university prepares for re-accreditation, Provost Teresa Sullivan invites members of the campus community to a Provost’s Forum on Accreditation: Examining Key Topics and Opportunities. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m.-noon May 7 in the Great Lakes Room, 4th Floor, Palmer Commons.

Bob Moses' Algebra Project:
Mathematics and Civil Rights

Hyman Bass and Dean Deborah Ball have expanded their collaboration with Civil Rights Leader and founder of the Algebra Project Bob Moses by linking their respective equity-focused efforts — the Algebra Project and the Elementary Mathematics Lab — so the mathematical literacy project could spread its work throughout the state of Michigan.
