More interdisciplinary junior faculty proposals approved
The second round in a five-year, $30 million interdisciplinary teaching initiative will focus on topics ranging from navigating the digital landscape to understanding how man-made structures affect the natural environment. The program will result in 24 new tenure-track junior faculty positions.

UM-Flint’s Kay to become provost at EMU
UM-Flint Provost Jack Kay will become provost and executive vice president at Eastern Michigan University, effective Aug. 1. Kay has worked at UM-Flint for five years and more recently served as interim chancellor from January 2007 to August 2008, when Ruth Person was appointed chancellor.

Town halls set to discuss IT transformation
Those interested in learning more about the structure and initial objectives of U-M’s new information technology organization can register online for town hall meetings later this month. Laura Patterson, associate vice president for the new IT organization, issued the town hall invitation to gather input on how to expand and improve university IT services.

Helping NOLA recover
This spring, more than three years after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Jake Weixler jumped at the chance to organize a group of about 30 fellow Law School students who spent spring break helping the still-struggling city recover. At right, Jessica Greenia, Mei Li Zhen and Meredith Monroe work at the public defenders' office on various legal research projects for clients.
