Great Britain’s poet laureate in residence at Zell Writers Series
Carol Ann Duffy, the poet laureate of Great Britain, will be the Zell Visiting Writers Series’ writer in residence Jan. 11-15. Duffy’s residency is the opening event of the Winter 2010 Zell series. Appointed in 2009, Duffy is the first woman to be Great Britain’s poet laureate, a royal post awarded to a poet whose verse is considered to be of national significance.

Dr. Kathy Hughes' medical career is soaring … literally. After graduating last year with a Master of Public Health degree, Hughes is completing her residency in aerospace and occupational medicine in San Antonio, Texas. One of a handful of Air Force physicians who also are pilots, she wants to become a test-pilot physician. “Flying to me is freedom,” she says.
