Ensure talented space program, Zurbuchen tells House panel
Making sure America's space program has the talent it needs to carry out its mission is paramount, U-M space scientist Thomas Zurbuchen told the House Science, Space and Technology Committee on Wednesday. At a hearing on the future of NASA, Zurbuchen said small programs that involve lots of students are a great example of how to maximize the impact of NASA science.

U-M will face Notre Dame in Big House night game; Harmon to be Football Legend
U-M will host Notre Dame in a nationally televised, primetime football game at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 7, 2013. The athletic department will honor 1940 Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon, installing him as a Michigan Football Legend during a pre-game ceremony.

Office of Campus Sustainability releases reporting guidelines for goals
The Office of Campus Sustainability has established reporting guidelines to track the university’s progress toward its sustainability goals related to operations. The creation of the guidelines supports the campuswide sustainability initiative known as Planet Blue.

A conservator gives back
Cathleen Baker, a conservation librarian at the U-M Library, has established a new fellowship that gives students, practicing conservators, and researchers the opportunity to actively conserve materials from the library’s extensive collection. The first fellows in the program — Lauren Calcote and Aisha Wahab — currently are working at the library. “Conservators, whether they are associated with institutions or in private practice, are not usually in a financial position to leave their work temporarily to pursue a short-term project that will benefit the profession and our cultural heritage,” Baker says.
