UM-Flint faculty member named Distinguished Professor of the Year
Mojtaba Vaziri, professor of physics and engineering at UM-Flint, has been named a Distinguished Professor of the Year by the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan. The award recognizes outstanding contributions and dedication by faculty members from Michigan’s 15 public universities to the education of undergraduate students.
ITS announces winners for fall Mobile Apps Challenge
Innovative mobile phone apps created at the UM3D Lab in the Digital Media Commons took the top two places in the Fall 2012 Mobile Apps Challenge. The first-place app allows headache sufferers to easily track the location and severity of the pain, and the second-pace winner produces a virtual experience for reading text on ancient papyrus.
Today is last day to get $50 for completing health questionnaire
Today is the last day to complete the MHealthy Rewards confidential health questionnaire. By doing so, qualifying benefits-eligible faculty and staff will get a personalized health report, earn a $50 before-tax incentive, and get a chance to win a $500 gift card.
College of Engineering seeks nominations for two staff awards
The College of Engineering is seeking nominations for its 2013 Excellence in Staff Service Award Program and the Judith A. Pitney Staff Service Career Award. All nominations and supporting materials must be received by April 1.

Assisting female veterans
A desire to help women and children from the time she was a teenager led Carrie Miller to establish Our Home Transitional, a non-profit organization designed to provide transitional housing to female veterans in need of support. Miller, a senior at UM-Flint, is in the process of buying a 10-bedroom house on Flint’s near north side to house her organization.
