MCubed marks one year, 194 cubes, $11M in interdisciplinary, innovative research
Today marks the first anniversary of the launch of MCubed, the one-of-a-kind research funding program that gives $60,000 to interdisciplinary teams that agree to work together on new pilot projects. Across U-M, 194 teams of qualifying faculty members have received funding.
Yukiko Yamashita named Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator
Yukiko Yamashita of the Life Sciences Institute is one of 27 biomedical researchers named today as Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators. HHMI provides flexible support on renewable five-year appointments to allow scientists to move their research in creative new directions.
Alternative parking options during School of Nursing building project
The construction of a new U-M School of Nursing building on the Health System’s campus will begin approximately the third week of June, displacing 140-165 parking spaces during various stages of the project, and removing 125 spaces upon completion. In preparation, additional parking spots are being added in two nearby locations.

Their parents earn as little as $2 a day, and they live in makeshift, one-room homes. But for seven days in October these 12 children in El Salvador received world-class cardiac care courtesy of a team headed by the U-M Health System. It was the second time the UMHS team traveled to the Central American country as part of an international collaborative sponsored by Gift of Life International. This time, the team trained a cardiac team in El Salvador on a variety of procedures and equipment so those doctors can provide similar care to the children in their country.
