Erdogan Gulari, professor of chemical engineering and of macromolecular science and engineering, and his team of researchers have been working to synthesize and find antimicrobial peptides that will battle selective targets more effectively. This video about Gulari's work is part of "Squashing Superbugs," a digital multimedia experience produced by the College of Engineering that explores ways to combat bacteria that are growing increasingly resistant to antibiotics.

Michigan Radio celebrating 65 years of public broadcasting
In 65 years, Michigan Radio has become the state's most listened-to public radio service, helping pioneer a news and information format that draws more than 500,000 listeners a week across southern Michigan. "While many media outlets have cut back on their reporting, Michigan Radio has expanded its service and coverage of issues affecting the state," says Steve Schram, director of Michigan Public Media.

UM-Dearborn to be a Public Allies operating site for metro Detroit
UM-Dearborn has received a $365,000 federal grant to become an operating site for Public Allies, a federally funded AmeriCorp service program aimed at community members with little or no college education. It is designed to strengthen communities by teaching participants leadership skills that contribute to their community’s talent base.

Grant funds opportunity program for high school students at UM-Flint
The Pre-college Summer Residential and Academic Year Bridge Program, under which the UM-Flint Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives brings high school students from three Flint-area school districts to live on campus during the summer, has received a $415,700 grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

A summer of Shakespeare
Acting is not just something Janet Haley teaches — it's also what she does. Haley, assistant professor of theatre at UM-Flint, will return for her eighth season with the Michigan Shakespeare Festival in Jackson this summer. Haley, an associate artist with MSF since 2011, will be playing Olivia in "Twelfth Night," Constance in "King John," and the Barmaid in Oliver Goldsmith's "She Stoops to Conquer."
