Off-campus shooting injures student

A U-M student was treated and released from the U-M Emergency Department for a gunshot wound he sustained at a house party in the 1400 block of State Street just after midnight Dec. 5. Another person at the party also sustained a gunshot wound and was treated and released from another local hospital.

The Ann Arbor Police reported that the two people were injured when a man fired shots during an argument as the off-campus party was breaking up. Police searched the neighborhood but did not locate a suspect. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued Crime Alert #17 early Sunday morning. He later was described as a black man with a dark complexion and short stature weighing about 200 pounds, and last was seen wearing a black shirt and black sweatpants. Few other details about the incident have been released.

Student facing multiple charges in assault

A U-M student was arraigned on four charges in connection with a sexual assault of another student Nov. 17 in her room at Baits Housing. The male student was arraigned Nov. 19 on two counts of criminal sexual conduct third degree, minor in possession of alcohol and violation of the controlled substance act. He is scheduled to appear at his preliminary exam Wednesday.

He is accused of assaulting an acquaintance after the female had gone to sleep following an evening of socializing with roommates and friends. Shortly after midnight, the female awoke in her bed to find the male lying naked on top of her. She was taken to the U-M Emergency Department for examination and treatment.

Pizza driver robbed on North Campus

A pizza driver was robbed Nov. 13 in the 2300 block of Bishop Street when he was attempting to find an address for a delivery. While searching for the address, which turned out to be nonexistent, he was approached by an unknown man carrying what the victim later believed was a fake gun. The man ordered the driver to the ground and took his iPhone before fleeing. The driver was unhurt and reported the incident to police about 20 minutes later. U-M police searched the area for the subject, but were unable to locate him.

Forced-entry burglary at School of Ed

Six laptop computers were stolen during a burglary of the School of Education media room that was reported Nov. 19. A Building Services staff person arrived in the area shortly after midnight and discovered the area in disarray and a window broken. The investigation is continuing.

Cash stolen from room with open window

A West Quad resident told DPS Nov. 13 that cash had been taken from his room two days earlier when he left his window open while he was gone for 20 minutes. When he had returned to his room Nov. 11, he noticed the window screens were ajar, but didn’t notice his money was missing from a drawer until the following day.
