In Brief

Clinical Research Town Hall on Wednesday

Dr. Ken Pienta, director of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research, heads a Clinical Research Town Hall at noon Wednesday in the University Hospital Ford Auditorium. The focus of the event is an update on the Strategic Assessment of the Clinical Research Enterprise that many faculty and staff participated in during the past year. A Q-and-A session will also be presented. For more information go to www.michr.umich.edu.

Microsoft-Google online tools demonstration

Representatives from Microsoft and Google will be on campus Tuesday and Oct. 7 to conduct demonstrations of their online collaboration tools for e-mail, calendars and scheduling, content and document sharing, and more. These sessions are sponsored by the Unit IT Steering Committee, established this year as part of a new university IT governance structure to help evaluate campuswide IT priorities. All university staff and students are invited to attend. For more details and to register, go to nextgen.umich.edu/collaboration-tools.php.

Phi Kappa Phi Chapter recognized

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently recognized U-M’s campus chapter as a Chapter of Merit. The award, presented at the organization’s national biennial convention last month in Kansas City, Mo., is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others. The chapter is recognized as a thriving organization that meets frequently, holds annual initiations and applies frequently for Phi Kappa Phi’s select scholarships, grants and fellowships.
